From a philosophical standpoint, the radio spot has as much validity today as it did then. It's very much like a re-run of a sitcom on television: It made us laugh then, and it makes us laugh now; we respond to it now, and we responded to it then. It addresses the past and it addresses the present. And even the questions posed by some respondents wish to know if it worked. When? Then or now, or both?

In fact, I had unwittingly responded to it as though it were released today simply because I did not take the time to read it thoroughly enough the first time around, all of which makes me look stupid and impulsive. But sometimes, I do things intentionally to get a reaction. Sometimes, I am stupid and impulsive. Human beings are sometimes stupid and impulsive. And just what exactly happens when human beings are sometimes stupid and impulsive? They may go out and kill someone. Or they may commit suicide. They may find a job and think there's not reason to look for another job because they now have a job only to get lazy until the day they're fired or laid off. Or they may spend more money than they have and may go into debt. Or they may vote for a stupid and impulsive politician. Or they may fuck for fun and make half a dozen babies.

Still, from a literal standpoint, reading it on the computer screen, the transcription suggests Mr. Burden does ask for money, regardless of the year. But do not relieve him of his burden for one may get burned unless you decide to send him YOUR MONEY hand-written on a piece of paper, then seal it in an envelope and mail it to the address featured in the above transcription.

My name is Joel K. Smock and I approved this message which is from one great artist to a mediocre artist. Paid for by the DNC and not the Democratic National Committee, unless you prefer a different interpretation.

YOUR MONEY -- There, Burden. Consider it now sent to relieve you of your burden.
